How can I make a single serving cup of hot chocolate out of a dark chocolate bar and milk?
ByI have a bar of dark chocolate (57% cacao), milk, sugar and vanilla. And a microwave. Does anyone know what ratio of these ingredients would make tasty hot chocolate? Thanks!
No microwave, use a pot & stove.
Shave a chunk of chocolate the size of a clenched fist with a cheese grater, boil the milk. The minute the milk starts bubbling, turn it off. Poor the shavings into a cup & poor milk in the cup.
You could boil the shavings in the milk, but then you’d have to clean chocolate out of the pot.
I’d recommend not using any sugar at all, one drop of vanilla, mint, or almond extract, if you have sweet spices (pumpkin/apple pie spice, allspice, cinnimon, nutmeg, mace, ginger) give a little shake, marshmallows, a spoonfull of Ovaltine, instant coffee or malt, topped with dairy-based whipping cream, or half & half for flavor.

depends on how chocolaty you like it four squares should be a good start if not enough you can ad more till is just right. I would recomend small saucepan insted of microwave this way adding more chocolate will be less problematic, most likeley sugar will not be needed even with 57% cacao 1 teaspoon at the moast try it without sugar first and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla to 12 oz. milk. when peppermint stics are availible use one to stir hot chocolate it’s awsome!

Angelina’s Hot Chocolate
The Angelina Cafe in Paris, open since 1903,
serves a thick hot chocolate version in demitasse cups
with a tiny dollop of mascarpone and whipped cream.
They are famous for making hot chocolate from melted chocolate bars. It is incredibly easy to prepare by
mixing chocolate shavings with hot water.
You can serve it in small cups or in 17th-century style chocolate pots and demitasse cups such as those sold in gourmet shops.
Makes 4 servings
6 ounces fine-quality semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, chopped
1/4 cup water, room temperature
3 tablespoons hot water
3 cups hot milk, divided
Sugar to taste
Whipped cream, if desired
In a double boiler over low heat, combine chocolate and 1/4 cup water until melted, stirring occasionally; stir until smooth.
Remove top of double boiler pan from.
Whisk in 3 tablespoons hot water.
Pour into pitcher or divide among individual 4 mugs.
Either stir 3/4 cup hot milk into each mug or serve milk in a separate pitcher.
Pass sugar and whipped cream in separate bowls;
add to taste.
Makes 4 servings.
Candy Bar Hot Chocolate
Serves 2
2 egg yolks
2 ounces milk chocolate candy bar
1 cup milk
Beat the egg yolks in a small bowl; set aside. Coarsely chop chocolate and place in a 2-cup microwave-safe glass measuring cup with a spout. Add the milk. Place the measuring cup, uncovered, in the microwave. Whisking once or twice, cook on medium-high (70 percent power) until chocolate is melted and well blended, 2 1/2 to 3 minutes.
Remove the cup from microwave and slowly pour chocolate into the reserved egg yolks, whisking constantly. Return mixture to the measuring cup and cook in microwave until heated through, about 1 minute. You may need to rotate the measuring cup if your microwave doesn’t have a carousel. Pour into mugs and serve.

You just need to make it to taste. Start with 4-5 squares of Chocolate and go from there. You really need to use a stove top. Milk scorches way to easy and that will spoil the taste. Just add the chocolate from the beginning to one cup (6oz) of milk, and continuously stir. While stirring, add about 1/4 tsp vanilla extract and 1/2 tbsp of sugar. If you find it needs to be sweeter then add extra sugar slowly and taste til it as you desire.
