Stomach Problems after eating Diet / Sugar Free Chocolate?
ByHas anyone suffered stomach problems after eating diet chocolate?,
I ate a good part of a box of Thorntons Diet Chocolates and this morning suffered cramps, gas and embarrassingly sudden watery diarrhoea..not good when at work or stuck in your car as I was!
Anyone else had this effect?
You are most likely deficient in magnesium. Additionally, ANY artificial sweeteners have about 92 different side effects that will harm your body, including the effect from formaldehyde formation in your liver from the artificial sweeteners. The formaldehyde could contaminate your bile that is made in the liver. The bile goes to the gall bladder and is stored there. When fats enter the small intestines, the bile is dumped into the small intestine to emulsify it. If the bile is contaminated, the fats will not be digested properly and that can cause the kinds of problems you are having.
A very good indication of magnesium deficiency is craving chocolate.
This deficiency may be strongly related to calcium and zinc deficiencies as well. If you are not producing enough stomach acid, the chime entering your jejunum as it passes through the pyloric sphincter will have a high pH. This is where magnesium and calcium compete for absorption in the body. If it is not acid enough, the calcium, magnesium, and zinc will not be absorbed.
Most likely the cramps and diarrhea came from rotting, fermenting chime that was not broken down properly from the lack of stomach acid. Anyone eating the American diet is typically deficient in stomach acid. The drug companies made $50 billion dollars on this last year. By taking the antacids, you destroy the stomach acid and the drug companies know this. It is the biggest FARCE ever perpetrated on the American public and there is no agency trying to stop it. Simply unbelievable.
good luck to you

I've heard of it. It's a reaction to the artifical sweetener. It's temporary. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell what your reaction will be, until you try the treat.
It's temporary. You'll be normal in a few hours.
Peace.

I think, the problem is that you ate most of the box.
It is a side effect of the artificial sweetners in the chocolate. They can have a laxative effect if consumed in sufficient quantity. Hence your cramps and loose stools.

The sorbitol/mannitol in the chocolates caused that. You must have eaten a ton. The sorbitol is really hard to digest and, in large quantities, would cause gas, bloating and maybe diarhea. Buy some air freshener. Youre going to need it.

Most of the sugar-free candies contain xylitol as their sweetener. Over consumption can cause diarrhea, etc. Also, if you are diabetic, you should check your blood sugar, since sometimes the body will react to xylitol the same way it does to sugar.

This is common with foods that contain sugar alcohols( "ol " endings,ie. mannitol, sorbitol) Some people are more sensitive than others.

The sugar-replacement in sugar free items is known to cause diarrhoea. This is because its molecular composition is altered so that it cannot be digested, so it passes straight through, so to speak. There should be a warning in the small print on the product. Sorry you had this problem!

Sorbitol is actually a drug that doctors use to treat constipation! I know that because I bought some Popsicles sweetened with sorbitol during a heat wave last summer. Hmm, says I, at 15 calories a pop, I could eat this whole box without breaking my diet…
The rest is history that I'd rather forget. My kids still bring up the "diarrhea Popsicles."
