Why do many companies put dairy in dark chocolate?

I’m vegan, so I don’t eat anything with milk, but many companies who have dark chocolate lines put milk or butter in them? Why? If someone wants chocolate with milk, why not just have milk chocolate. Plus, the milk completely negates the antioxidants in the chocolate?

Do they think it makes the chocolate taste better?
I live in the States, and I find plenty of vegan dark chocolate, but if I’m near a place where I can’t get the organic chocolate, I’m out of luck.

Milk chocolate does not contain any milk (well, by definition, it doesn’t.) Milk chocolate just means that it has a higher percentage of cocoa butter and a lower percentage of cocoa.

Of course, some companies DO add dairy because it can help offset the need to temper the chocolate. They may also add it to add flavor or God knows why else they would. It’s their product, and they can add whatever they wish.

Also, 100% straight cocoa is very bitter. It is really only used in baking applications where sugar, dairy fat, and other flavorings will be mixed in separately.

That’s why dark chocolate candy bars usually only go to about a 70-82% cocoa… beyond that and the chocolate is too bitter to eat straight.

I hope this answers your question! I only know of one brand of vegan chocolate in the States, Paul Newman’s, but I also haven’t exactly been on the hunt for any.

It’s what most people want unfortunately. That’s the reason, poor judgment of the majority of consumers. That’s capitalism for you

They gotta put something in it, cos 100% coco (or whatever it is.) tastes too disgusting to eat. They only have them for cooking.
I like milk chocolate though so I’m not that helpful.
Can’t you get chocolate with soy or rice milk instead? I know I’ve had chocolate with soy instead, but it was a diet bar and it wasn’t that nice…
